Goodman’s first vertical solar installation offers an alternative way for customers to harness the sun’s energy.

While rooftop solar panels are becoming increasingly common in Australia, they are far from the only way to add solar generation to a building.

Roofs, purpose-built structures (often over car parking), and vertical solar (climbing external walls) all offer opportunities to harness the sun’s energy, reduce customer bills and tackle carbon emissions.

But implementing sustainable solutions in the face of building constraints is complex. When assessing a property for a solar instal, Goodman’s people first consider the building’s structure and the pre-work required.

If we’re planning rooftop solar, we determine if there’s enough space for the optimum number of panels for our customer, or if plant and equipment on the roof will crowd the panels.  Wind plays a role too. Solar panels don’t sit flush but are slightly raised. Will it be too difficult or costly to reinforce the roof to handle this load?
