Thread Together is tackling clothing insecurity and reducing textile waste by delivering new clothes to people in need across Australia

1. Eleven mobile wardrobes delivering clothes directly to communities.

2. Nearly 200 women’s shelters now equipped with wardrobes.

3. Over 700 tonnes of new clothing diverted from landfill each year.

Thread Together tackles two significant issues with one solution: reducing textile waste and addressing clothing insecurity across Australia. The organisation collects brand-new clothing destined for landfill and redistributes it to people in need. Since 2019, Goodman Foundation’s support has been instrumental in expanding this impact—starting with a single wardrobe in one women’s refuge, which has now grown to nearly 200 wardrobes in shelters for women and children escaping domestic violence across Australia.

Each wardrobe provides essentials like loungewear, sleepwear, and underwear to ensure immediate access to new clothes. Goodman’s support has also helped Thread Together adopt a proactive approach to disaster relief, using data-driven insights to pre-position clothing and resources in vulnerable areas.

Access to Goodman-owned warehouse space has been transformative—enabling Thread Together to manage donations efficiently and scale operations. Goodman’s people also regularly volunteer, playing a hands-on role in getting new clothes to those who need them most.

Anthony Chesler, CEO of Thread Together said:

Our whole model is powered by volunteers. Being in a location that’s accessible has been vital to delivering support where it’s needed most.
