Accelerating our EV future

The transition to electric transport is underway. But electric vehicles need plug in points – and those plug in points must be embedded into the built environment.

Goodman recognises our role in preparing our estates and our customers for an EV future. We’re supporting the switch to EVs by building a green fleet, encouraging our people to purchase EVs, providing dedicated EV bays and charge points at all new developments, and collaborating with our customers.

The transition to electric transport is underway. Around the world, the cost of batteries is coming down, more than 600 zero emission models are on track for launch by 2025 and governments are setting mandates. Around half of all new vehicles sold in 2040 will be electric.

But electric vehicles need plug points - and those plug in points must be embedded into the built environment. The World Economic Forum estimates we need some 290 million charging points globally by 2040, at a cost of around $500 billion.

Goodman recognises our role in preparing our estates and our customers for an EV future. We are supporting the switch to EVs in four key ways:

  1. Building a green fleet: We have installed EV chargers at our own offices and our Australian fleet of 55 hybrid vehicles will be updated to fully electric vehicles by 2025. We are also transitioning our global vehicle fleet to EVs.
  2. Powering our people towards EV: In 2021, Goodman established a AU$10 million incentive over five years to help our people purchase their own electric vehicles. When coupled with government rebates and incentives, the grant makes EV ownership possible for many in our team.

  1. Driving EVs in new developments: All new Goodman development projects in Australia will feature dedicated electric vehicle bays and EV charging, with a minimum of 5% of carparks EV-ready. Our large-scale investment in rooftop solar – which is expected to reach 100MW by 2025 in Australia alone - will also help us prepare our assets for an electric future.
  2. Collaborating with customers: We build the infrastructure for some of the largest e-commerce delivery agents in the world – and many these customers are moving towards electric vehicles at speed. Some have already purchased electric vehicles. Others are still weighing up their options. Our facilities have a big part to play in supporting their EV transition and we are collaborating with customers and EV partners to support their electric future.

Goodman takes a holistic approach to sustainability – which means we look for ways to reduce our environmental impact while creating new value for our customers and our people. EVs are clean, quiet, safe, cost-effective and generate zero carbon emissions. By accelerating the uptake of EVs, Goodman is helping our team and our customers to reap these rewards.
