Goodman developed a 82,853 sqm purpose-built distribution centre for Metcash, Australia's leading wholesale distribution and marketing company.
Metcash has been a Goodman customer since 2000, with Goodman previously developing an 89,000 sqm distribution centre for Metcash, at Crestmead in Queensland. Metcash specialises in the export of temperature controlled and dry grocery foods, general merchandise and other store requirements.
Metcash sought to consolidate their Sydney operations from five existing facilities into one large purpose-built distribution centre. This would provide a centralised distribution hub across their grocery, liquor, fresh, Cstore and general merchandise divisions.
The new purpose-built facility needed to incorporate an ambient warehouse, temperature controlled warehouses, office space and expansion land. As part of their sustainability strategy, Metcash also sought to integrate sustainable initiatives and design principles into their new facility.
Goodman’s experience in large scale industrial development was critical to the success of the project. Goodman adopted a collaborative, flexible approach and worked closely with Metcash to deliver their new purpose-built 82,853 sqm distribution centre at Bungarribee Industrial Estate. Key features of the facility included:
The facility was developed to achieve a 4-star Green Star rating (Industrial–V1) under both the design and as-built tools. As one of the first industrial developments of its kind rated under the tool, the Metcash distribution centre set new energy efficiency benchmarks for temperature controlled warehousing.
The new development also delivered improvements in productivity and business synergies for Metcash.
