OzHarvest was the first perishable food rescue organisation in Australia established in 2004. Their focus is to collect quality excess food from commercial outlets and deliver it, direct and free of charge, to 600 charities, providing much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across major centres in Australia.
As a founding partner Goodman has provided OzHarvest with Office facilities and refrigerated delivery vans since 2004. In 2014 Goodman undertook a major capital project to build a ‘fit for purpose’ facility to house their head office, warehouse and commercial kitchen operations in Goodman's Alexandria Industrial estate in South Sydney. Goodman contributed close to $1.3 million to this project, with many of our suppliers also providing their skills and expertise pro bono, including Team2, FDC, Perfect Pipes, Rawfire, Traffix, Mackenzie Group, Northrop, Site Image and Fresh Landscapes.
The new space has become OzHarvest's headquarters. It enables significant growth of their storage and logistics operations and also houses a commercial kitchen for their Nourish Program, which provides hope and employment opportunity to young people from troubled and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Other initiatives include provision of a community vegetable garden and various staff engagement opportunities from collecting food in the vans, cooking for the homeless and fun runs. Goodman is a true partner, also contributing to the development of their next 3-5 year strategy and establishing a sister organisation KiwiHarvest in Auckland NZ.
