Created by Bourke Street Bakery, The Bread & Butter Project is an artisan bakery delivering handmade bread to Sydney’s fine food purveyors. As a social enterprise, 100% of their profits are reinvested into baker training and employment pathways for communities in need.
The Bread and Butter Project empowers members of Sydney's refugee community by providing a paid, 12-month training program in baking. As well as learning the ins and outs of the job, the trainees attend English lessons with the help of external volunteers. The program is TAFE accredited and graduates receive a Certificate II in Retail Baking Assistance.
The Goodman Foundation is a founding funding partner, providing capital to establish the charity resulting in the purchase of two delivery trucks. This support was fundamental to ensuring the early success of Bread and Butter Project and Goodman has provided additional support to assist the continued growth of the project through the provision of office equipment and computers.
As a true long term partner Goodman remains involved in their future plans to establish a retail bakery outlet in South Sydney.
